My name is Danny Swanger Sr. people call me Tuck, I started boxing when I was 10 years old at the same Boys & Girls Club. The same Boys & Girls Club I now coach and mentor youth.. When I boxed as an amateur I was in a weight class that was hard to get a match, both of my brothers boxed on the same team my Uncle Lee Medley coached, We traveled to Rock Hill, Lincolnton, Gastonia, Charlotte, Greenville and Pickens and we all had a great time, while also learning how to respect and communicate with other people in an out of the ring, It seemed like boxing just went away for a few years. At 19 I found it again by starting out being a sparring partner for my cousin (The Gaffney Rock) Terry Medley and I loved it so much I wanted to be a competitor again and did very well with a record of 7 and 0, the last 5 by technical knock out. I was ranked 7th in North and South Carolina in the junior welter weight division. In the local paper being published by the late Don White better know as (BUMPEY). I was also working as a pipe welder here in Gaffney and I had a construction accident, I fell 27 feet trying to stop a piece of pipe from falling through the ceiling not knowing who it would hit below, I landed on the right side of my body and head, I ended up with a skull fracture and other problems that ended my boxing career as a competitor. Back in 2006 I started training boxing at my welding shop .Back in 2008 I was asked if I would consider training at the local Boys & Girls Club where I continue to follow a dream for some of our kids to become an Olympic or Pro boxer, but most of all I want them to have the experience, leadership and discipline to make good life decisions.. The opportunity allows me to develop relationship with these young athletes teaching them discipline, character, confidence, and leadership. By giving of my time and love I have grown and been blessed. I work everyday in the hope to see these young athletes become dynamic leaders in our community. Back in 2010, I was awarded THE CONTRIBUTER OF THE YEAR by The Carolinas Boxing of Fame and earlier this year I was asked if I would consider being on the board of directors and I said YES…
